Set A Good Tempo For A Perfect Golf Swing

Tempo must be the overanalyzed aspect of a golf swing. Why? It is because the concept of tempo is not constant. In reality, there is not one perfect tempo to follow. As you can observe, all the greatest golf players in the world have different tempos, but they are equally successful.
But to effectively set a good tempo for a perfect golf swing, here are tips that you can follow:

1. Practice with your clubs. The best clubs to use when improving tempo are the 7, 8, and 9 clubs. But you can move through your bag and do the same swing with all your irons and clubs. Do it repeatedly until after you have the ability to embrace a constant swing tempo.
2. Be wary of the proper timing. Tempo is nothing but a combination of sound mechanics and the right timing. It is produced with both the arms and the body functioning together to generate the greatest club head speed.
3. Tempo is a mind game. Your tempo should be highly rhythmic. Before you start a game of golf, condition your mind. As your game progresses, always put your tempo on check. More often than not, it is your disposition that influences your tempo or the speed of your club. And to excel in golf, it is a must that you maintain a consistency throughout the game.
4. Coordinate your movement. Good hand and body coordination is the key. To achieve this, allow your shoulders and your arms to execute the swing in a harmonized movement. Then transfer your weight from the rear foot to the forward foot. Do this regularly and you'll get both tempo and balance at the same time.
5. Position the ball properly. Put the ball just within the left heel. Your head, hands, and weight should all be behind the ball. Proper ball positioning will ensure that you'll have solid contact all the time.
With all of these said, you should now be ready to establish your very own tempo. You'll see that this can be the very aspect tempo to hold both your swing and your game together.

United States Golf Open Championship- tips

Why the U.S Open is the hardest tournament of all & who can conquer it this year in 2009. Tiger, Phil, Vijay..........
Let me show you 3 ways you can learn from the U.S Open Championship played at Bethpage Black.
How watching the U.S Open, can improve your golf game.
3 ways you can learn
The U.S Open golf Championship is the hardest set up golf tournament in the world of golf.
Why?
The long rough, generally 4-6" long just off the fairway, the bunkering, the fast greens, the crowds are very passionate & can hamper your game with continued pressure, long yardages, windy conditions & & of course self confidence, you need to be extremely confident going into a U.S Open Championship.

We can learn from what the Golf Professionals do at a championship.
Tip #1 The Rough.
By watching the top players in the world we can see how they play the percentages, when in the rough.
What we can learn from this is when you are in the rough choose a higher lofted club such as a wedge or 9 iron, the aim here is to get the ball out. If we go with a lower lofted club we cannot get the ball high enough to get out of the rough. Also with the lower lofted club the grass will grab the clubhead turning it inward & de-lofting the club. So play the percentages, play away from trouble.
Tip #2 The fast greens.
At club level golf we rarely play on super fast greens like the U.S Open on a weekly basis, but if you do heres what to do. If you are faced with a 10 foot downhill putt that is extremely fast, line your ball up off the toe of your putter, this will deaden the ball coming off the putter face too quickly, you will see the ball roll almost in slow motion & it will not race past the hole.
On quick greens always aim to die the ball into the cup, we don't want to hammer the ball at the hole as the next putt might be longer again coming back.

Tip #3 The bunkers.
As with many top golf courses the bunkers can be terrifying to us especially if they are deep & have a high lip on them. When faced with a bunker with a tight pin placement aim to play away from trouble. Rather than try to take the low percentage shot on & leave the ball in the bunker why not play out sideways, I know you are sacrificing a shot but you are not taking another 2 shots to get out. Look for an area where you can get the ball up 'n' down.
Getting a bogey rather than a triple bogey will do wonders to your overall score & keep you in the hunt for glory.
So next time you are watching the U.S Open Golf Championship take note how the best golfers in the world play the percentages.
For me this year like other Years I have my money on Tiger Woods......

6 Guidelines to Help Create the Perfect Golf Swing

The Perfect Swing
The game of golf is about achieving the perfect swing. In golf, there are always three things you must remember to get the swing right: Stance, Posture, and Grip. If you cannot master the right way to execute these three things, then you will never be able to master the game.
The perfect swing can only be achieved with the right amount of concentration. You don't just swing your golf club; there are many instances where players swing the wrong way and they never get to hit the ball. Precision and timing are also two things you must remember when it comes to the perfect swing.
Here are some rules to get your swing just right:

Perfect position. First, and foremost, when playing golf, one must locate the flag. The flag pinpoints the hole in which your golf ball must fall in. For starters, you can practice by distancing yourself from the flag, and moving farther bit by bit as you learn to get the golf ball closer to the hole. You must position yourself parallel to the flag, and with perfect timing and aim you can truly get that ball into the hole.
Grip. If one has a good grip on his or her golf club, the road to achieving the perfect swing is not far behind. A good grip has no specific rules or ways on how to do it. You will have to discover it on your own. Every golfer must learn the right way to hold a golf club, so that it doesn't fly away once you make your swing. When purchasing a golf club, you will notice that each golf club can either have a ladies' grip or a men's grip. It doesn't necessarily mean that a girl can only use a girl's grip and vice-verse; if a player has small hands then he or she should be equipped with the women's grip, otherwise one can purchase the men's grip.
Proper posture. When getting ready for a swing, each player should have a good posture. This means, stomach in and chest out. When standing on the course, it is not advisable to slouch or show poor posture. A great posture can prevent back problems, and will also help you to achieve the perfect swing.
Good stance. A good stance while playing golf allows the player to have poise and balance throughout the game. Stance must not be confused with posture, although they may have the same effects, stance can be more confusing and longer to master. Here are some ways to achieve a good stance:
• The width of your shoulders will decide how far apart your feet should be, they should be of the same length as your shoulders.
• The upper torso should lean slightly away from the lower torso; this can help improve your swinging skills as it lets your hand hang comfortably in front of your body.
Posture. Aside from good stance, a good posture is also needed to create the perfect swing. Your back should be straight with your chest out and your stomach in. Poor posture could lead to disappointing swings.
Shake it off. Before executing their golf swing, each golf player does what they call the waggle. Each person has his or her own version of a waggle. So what exactly is it? The waggle is done to relax the player and prepare him or her for that big swing. When doing a waggle your shoulders and upper body should not move. From the moment you grip your golf club, these body parts should not move. Usually a golfer moves his hips slowly in order to shake off and get ready for the swing.
If you have done all this, then you are ready to swing that golf club. When one does the swing, there are two parts. First is the backswing. The backswing motion involves the rotation of the whole body by slightly moving to the left or right to initiate a swing, when this is done the golfer lifts the golf club in preparation for the downswing, which is a swing to hit the golf ball. As you hit the ball, see if you successfully brought it to where you want it to be. With these steps you will be able to create the perfect golf swing.

Power Golf Exercises That Are Proven to Add Distance

Power golf exercises are a unique set of exercises that you do not do in a gym on machines, nor do you lift heavy weights. For that matter, you can do simple power golf exercises right in your home with minimal equipment.
You see...to improve the power in your golf swing, you need to look at the mechanics that create the power.
It's not your arms swinging the club as hard as you can! It's not your legs driving your body through the swing! And it's not swinging some funky 50 inch shaft with a 600cc titanium head either.
It's quite simple!
The power in your golf swing is your CORE!

Your core is the engine to your swing. If your core is weak or inflexible, you will never be able to hit a powerful tee shot. This is harsh...but very true!
The modern power golf swing is one of being "connected" with your upper body. Not letting your letting your arms get separated from your body. Rotating your upper body as a whole, over a somewhat stable lower body will produce maximum power at impact.
So the perfect power golf exercises involve rotational movements with resistance in your core area. The are many exercises you can do that will dramatically improve your driving distance and power...and no gym required!
A simple power golf exercise for your core is my Seated Twist w/Dumbbell:
  • Sit upright in your chair.
  • Hold single dumbbell straight out from chest with arms fully extended.
  • While keeping your head focused straight ahead, rotate your arms to the right, then to the left as far as you can go both ways.
  • Do this non-stop for 20 total rotations.
  • Pause for 15 seconds and repeat 2 more times.
At first you will feel very restricted in your midsection. That's a sign of how limited your rotational flexibility really is. But do this exercise daily and you will see improvement quickly.
The next time you step out onto the course, you'll blast your drives up to 20 yards further!
As you can see above...the key is ROTATIONAL exercises with resistance, whether it be a single dumbbell, exercise tubing or even a weighted golf club.
Doesn't matter what you use, as long as it is up to 5 pounds in weight and you can handle it easily in both hands. If you're already in good shape go for 10-15 pounds and increase your rate of speed. This will both improve your "fast-twitch" core muscles and also your range of motion for a bigger backswing and a complete follow through.
So you see...I wasn't fibbing! It doesn't take a gym or fancy equipment to do effective and proven power golf exercises!

Golf Tips - The Short Game

The short game can make or break a golf score, especially when you miss the green on your approach shot and need to get close to the cup, to save par. More bogies come from the golfer having a long put remaining to save his par. You have to agree that if you could chip within 3-5 feet consistently, your chances of making par increase dramatically. I will discuss 4 things to help improve your chances, grip, stance, golf swing and club choice.
Let's start with the grip. It's the easiest to understand. Quite simply, you use the same grip you always have. All you need to remember is to choke down on your club. Choking down slightly is to give you better control.

Now let's talk about the proper stance. For chipping, bring together your feet, spacing 6-10 inches apart (find a distance where you are comfortable in your balance). Draw back your front foot (foot closest to the target) about 4 inches. Play the golf ball off the heel of the front foot, with 60 percent of your weight shifting to your target side (front foot), with your knees bent, remaining bent throughout the swing. Push your hands forward at address, so the back of your upper hand is just in front (even) with the target side of the ball. This allows you to d-loft the club. Also at contact your hands are ahead of the ball, putting them in this placement at address helps make this happen.
Your swing consists of a shorten back-swing with an equally shortened follow through. Play these shots crisply, keeping the club head low on the back-swing. When chipping, your wrists are stiffer than normal and it is important to follow through (keep the club head moving) towards the target (don't quit on the shot at impact). I tell my students, when you're just of the green, think of it as a long putt and use your putting stroke (a little exaggerated to allow for distance).
Club choice is a personal preference. I teach my students to try various clubs, depending on the lie or length and distance of grass. I know the flop shot is popular today, but I teach my kid's old school, using anywhere from a 5 iron to a 9 iron.
Personally my 7 iron is my favorite club for around the greens. If I am just off the fringe I use a five iron and if 6-8 yards off (depending on the slope) I use 8 or 9 iron. I prefer my chances of getting close, by rolling the ball to the cup (like a putt) instead of bouncing, the ball (flop shot).
The rule of thumb to the old school chip and run is to land the ball 1/3 of the distance to the cup and let it roll out the other 2/3's. This will vary depending on the greens, some being faster or slower than others, depending on the course.
Give it a try. Next time you're on the practice green, you might be surprised at the results.

A Few Golf Tips From Tiger Woods

Tiger Woods is the undisputed king of professional golf. With a smooth technique you could set your watch by, he makes winning those championships look like a walk in the park.
Imagine if you could sit with Tiger for a few minutes and pick his brain to help improve your game. Here are some great golf tips from Tiger Woods.
It's All About Rhythm
Every player has their own natural rhythm. Some players are energetic and full of motion; others are stoic and deep in concentration.
Tiger says that when he's playing his best, everything he does is just second nature. He just goes with the flow, and there's little else involved. That's because he's found just the right groove that suits his natural rhythm.
If the rhythm's off, Tiger misses a swing or two. When things are flowing for him, he has to work a little to get it back into a natural rhythm.

So, how do you learn to keep your natural rhythm? There are a few ways Tiger suggests to help you find your groove and keep it.
Stick To Your Routine
Rhythm and consistency are important, so how you get ready both physically and mentally for the game is essential. Tiger has a practice routine that he does before every single game. He uses the same clubs, and the last club he uses for his pre-game warm-up is the one he plans to use for the first hole.
The point isn't to practice swinging, but to get into your groove.
The First Hole Is The Most Important
Long before he swings for that first hole, Tiger plans the whole game ahead. He prepares himself for the game mentally and emotionally. This involves relaxation, and deciding his game plan beforehand.
An awkward, uncertain first shot is a sure-fire rhythm-killer.
Keep Things Steady
To keep your rhythm going, you have to keep the tempo steady. When you get stressed, you start to speed things up. All that nervous energy makes you hurry to the next hole, and you end up making silly mistakes you wouldn't have made otherwise.
The next time you watch Tiger play, pay attention to the way he walks to the next hole. Even after a great shot, you'll never see him rush on to the next one. He'll pump his fist, smile, and stroll to the next hole with the same leisurely pace.
Tiger recommends a good pre-routine warm-up that helps you get into a relaxed frame of mind. This will get you started on the right foot.
Posture Means Perfect
When asked for practical golf tips, Tiger Woods always mentions posture. Tiger always stands straight and tall, a decent distance from the ball so that he can keep his chin up. Lots of golfers (including Tiger when he was a beginner) put their address position too close to the ball, and end up having to bow their head down too much. Tiger says to keep a good distance away so you don't have to lean over the ball.
Tiger Woods is not only one of the best players, he's also one of the most reflective. Perhaps the key to his success is his ability to look at his mistakes and shortcomings, and work to improve them, instead of getting frustrated. This is why his golf tips are so helpful to his fans. When you blow it, think about why you did it. Then, correct it next time, and you'll see improvement.

Tiger Woods Golf Stance - Proper For Your Driver Golf Swing?

The Tiger Woods golf stance driver setup, ball position, foot width and weight distribution have help win him 14 major championships as of the publish date of this article. It must be the driver golf stance that we all should use then, correct?
Well, not so fast! The answer for you is maybe and maybe not. But why wouldn't Tiger Woods golf stance be the proper stance for everyone?
Well, the first reason is that a golf stance does not sit independent of the type of swing technique you are attempting to perform. If you have a different swing style than another golfer, your stance technique is likely to be different.

A second reason why your stance may be different than Tiger's golf stance is because your body type may be completely different. Tiger Woods would even agree with this statement 100%. On page 87 of his book, How I Play Golf, Tiger states that "in choosing a particular player to model your swing after, take into consideration the player's height and build." "If you're tall and thin, you don't want to copy the swing of a player who is short and stocky."
As a third reason, I would expand on Tiger Woods' statement by adding that you should take into account a player's strength, flexibility, and coordination.
You have to look no further than the changes to Tiger Woods golf swing technique and changes in Tiger's build to see how a different golf stance can be required for different people. The old golf swing of a young skinny Tiger Woods used a driver setup with a square to slightly closed foot position (and a strong grip for that matter). This stance and grip helped him square the clubface at impact. A stronger Tiger in his early thirties plays a stance with a square to slightly open foot position (and a neutral grip for that matter) to protect against squaring the club face too quickly. This change in foot position for Tiger was also a result of a change in his swing technique philosophy. Tiger's old swing was for playing a draw as a youngster and his newer swing was designed for playing a power fade in his mid thirties.
So, to answer the question of whether the driver Tiger Woods golf stance is right for you more directly, let's first outline the exact components of his stance. Tiger has a slightly open, greater than shoulder width and upright stance. Further, Tiger turns his right and left foot outward slightly.
The open and upright stance allows Tiger to swing the club on a steeper plane than a square or closed foot position and less upright stance would allow. That is because the latter requires the ball to be a further distance away from your body. The further the ball is away from your body at address, the flatter your swing will be.
Further, the way he flares his feet is designed to allow him to fully rotate his shoulder on the backswing and follow through while limiting his hip turn. Finally, the foot width he uses is the ideal distance for balance and stability to control his 135 mph driver swing speed.
You will need to experiment with the Tiger Woods golf stance fundamentals while keeping in mind your swing style and your physical makeup to determine if his stance is proper for you. For instance, women who have lower centers of gravity and slower swing speeds may not need to have a driver stance of greater than shoulder width. Additionally, those trying to play a flatter swing plane or trying to play a draw may find that a square or closed stance is better for them. Finally, those with different flexibilities may need to rotate their feet differently to get the proper hip and shoulder rotation on the backswing and follow-through motions.
So, you see the answer really is maybe or maybe not. Nonetheless, I will tell you one thing for sure. If you are ready to learn how to swing the golf club like Tiger, you will need to be ready to incorporate a flexibility and strength training routine into your game. His hip and shoulder flexibility, as well as, his lower and upper body strength can not be bought over the counter. And they are required to pull off his portrait like swing.

Golf Swing Tip: Stop Swaying

In order to strike the golf ball cleanly, (at the bottom of your down swing and on the center of the club face), all the movable parts in your golf swing must be in sync...Tempo and Timing.
When you move around in your backswing, no matter how in sync your swing may be, the chances of you returning the club head solidly to the back of the golf ball, are very slim.
In this article I wish to focus on the primary "movable malady", that culprit that is embedded in many golfer's swings........SWAYING..... (It is generally considered to be an excess of lateral (side to side) body motion in a golf swing, away from the golf ball).

You've heard the term swaying most closely associated with the takeaway. From the static position at address, in order to gain the golf swing's momentum and help the process begin, the average golfer starts the back swing by moving off the ball laterally to the right. (for a right handed player). And I do mean noticeably off the ball.
This immediately takes their swing out, and then around their body and way off plane, and the majority of the time, it results in the golfer yanking the club too far inside on the back swing, where the club will eventually get " stuck" behind her/him. Feeling that they're out of position they will then conjure up all sorts of ways to attempt to get back into the hitting zone.
On the downswing the sway, through an unwanted metamorphosis, changes into a sliding motion. To compensate their sway, the golfer must slide laterally, to the left, and fight their golf swing in order to get in a position to strike the golf ball.. You've heard the fantastic term: " Let the club swing you"....We'll with the sway and slide the very opposite is usually true.
The best advice I can give the average and beginner golfer regarding stopping the sway in their golf swing, (and then be able to strike the golf ball more solidly), is to keep the lower half of your body quiet throughout the process. This does not mean be completely rigid and stiff, so as to inhibit movement..but close to that..
You've seen demonstrations by accomplished golfers, where they kneel down on the ground, (creating a stable, stationery foundation, taking their legs and feet totally out of the equation), and yet they are still able to hit a teed up golf ball impressively long and straight. This underscores that the upper parts of the golf swing are the most important, when it comes to introducing the club head to the ball solidly at impact. The lower body parts are valued additives that should not be overlooked, but that should not be focused on until the upper body movable parts are synchronized and are ingrained in your golf swing....

Professional golfers and skilled amateurs sync all the movable parts together. They know how to properly incorporate the " engine of the golf swing", the lower body, into the orchestration. It's all about timing....
They have spent hundreds upon thousands of hours practicing and honing in on their tempo and coordination of all body parts... You have not, ... and most likely will not have the time nor desire to put in such effort. After all it is their job, but not yours.
Therefore, since the lower body, ( hips, legs and feet), are so difficult for the weekend golfer to synchronize, I feel it is of utmost importance, and imperative, that you at first focus your entire practicing efforts on learning to strike the ball consistently with your upper body parts, the parts most closely attached to the golf club, ( hands, arms, shoulders and chest). Until you can gain the skills required to strike the ball solidly, time after time, through hand-eye coordination, do not bring the other half, ( the lower half), of your body into play..... But please, be sure to make a full shoulder turn. Don't simply swing your arms back and forth without the upper body going along with them. For this would render your practice worthless.
Here are some useful bullet points that will hopefully help you rectify the situation:
-At address have your weight slightly favoring your left side. This makes it much harder to sway off the ball at the beginning of the takeaway.
-Brace your right foot and have your right knee pointing slightly inward, in the direction toward the golf ball. ( A good drill is to place a golf ball under the outside middle of your right foot. This gives you that "locked in" lower body feeling when you start the back swing).
-Keep your head over the ball and try to have it remain in this position, ( it will move slightly).Think of your head being attached to the top of neck and spine, and turn "up and around" them, not swaying laterally with them.
-Find a trigger mechanism that helps you get the golf swing started from a static position to a fluid movement back and then eventually through on the down swing. Hogan waggled; many forward press their hands to get started. Don't overlook this important aspect. Do whatever works for you.
-Take the club back at the start in a "one piece" motion... i.e. the hands, arms, upper body in sync. (A good tip is to have the back of your left hand facing the target for the first several inches of your take away).
I hope this gives you food for thought..and that your game improves considerably.

Golf Swing Tips for Beginners: The First Steps to a Perfect Swing

Logically, the extent to which a rookie golfer learns and practices the important golf swing tips for beginners the closer he is to a perfect swing - a dream out of reach for many so-called experienced golfers. Ever since the inception of the game of golf, there have been so many teachers, tutorials, training centers that have tried so hard to teach to scores of enthusiastic golfers the perfect swing. But when one looks at a golf swing, it looks like such a simple movement. However, if one breaks down that simple movement, one can see the many things needed to be done in order to do a perfect swing. To at least know the basic golf swing tips for beginners is essential for rookie golfers to steadily improve their game.

One of the most basic tips that almost every golfer has heard is to keep one's eye on the ball. On the other hand, not a lot of people know the real reason as to why this statement is said over and over again by so many golf experts and professionals. Rookie golfers should keep their eye on the ball not because they need to accurately focus on the ball in order to hit it during the golf swing. Instead, rookie golfers should keep their eye on the ball because it keeps their head down during the swing, giving their shoulders enough room for the swing. The truth of the matter is nowadays most professionals are telling beginners not to directly focus their attention on the ball, but only to swing. This is one of the secret golf tips for beginners, and it leads us to the next tip.
In order for rookie golfers to swing as efficiently as possible, more and more golf experts are saying to their students that during their swing they should be nice and easy, in other words: relaxed. Keeping a certain easy rhythm on one's golf swing is one of the key golf tips for beginners, because when one is able to find their personalized tempo for their golf swing then one will eventually be capable of doing more consistent and powerful swings in the very near future. The best way to find one's tempo for their golf swing is to know the tempo of your breathing, since this is the prime indicator for the rhythm of one's golf swing.
Another of the familiar but absolutely essential tips is for rookie golfers to be square to the target. What this actually means for the beginner is to make certain that he is facing the right direction before he gets to swing the golf club. This may seem like an obvious fact, but in reality so many rookies and amateurs tend to forget this basic lesson, which is why so many of their drives never turn out the way they wanted it to be. All it takes to know if one is square to the target is to check if their shoulders are aligned to the flag. These golf swing tips for beginners are in fact the baby steps to a perfect swing in the near future.

Golf Swing Tips - How To Fix Your Swing Tempo

Tempo is a "movement" relative to speed or pace, the time it might take to complete a full swing starting from the take away, through to the follow through or finish position. Swing Tempo is an essential and often overlooked fundamental. If you want to play better and more consistently, you're going to have to be in tune with your body and swing. Did you ever notice that one day you have it, and the next you don't. How can there be a difference of about eight strokes from back to back rounds. One of the big reasons is that your body is different each day, maybe it's the weather, or your soar, or maybe you didn't stretch correctly. It all plays an important role in your golf swing tempo day to day.

Another reason might be the conditions on the golf course are different from day to day. The wind plays a big factor, as does the rain and course setup. It makes complete sense that you pay thoughtful attention to your swing tempo and rhythm. Swing Tempo is a tough subject to explain, it's all about the feel of your natural swing. You need to recognize when it's too fast, or slow so when it gets out of control you can make the quick fix to adjust it during your round of golf. Follow this simple method.
  • THE RHYTHM DRILL
Rhythm is a vital part of the golf swing tempo; it's more of a melody you can hum to yourself, One-and-Two, One-and-Two. Repeating it over and over, you're trying to program your mind to stay within yourself. Not a quick count, a more relaxed swing thought. Try going to the range and practicing this simple drill, place a dozen balls on the ground, using a six iron start hitting balls repeating the one-and-two. You are gradually going to take the club back to the One station, once you get to the top that is the and station, starting back down to the two station or impact zone. You're perfecting your own swing thought and rhythm, not someone else's. So when your swing tempo gets to fast or slow, sub concisely you're going to fix it immediately because you trained your mind the rhythm drills. Now you can do this for every club in your bag, including the putter a good swing tempo can be used in every situation that you are faced with out on the golf course.Try these simple golf swing tips and it should bring you great results.
